NEW! Reduced On-Site FFL Transfer Fees – New Salem Firearms has reduced their transfer fees for on-site purchasers at the live Tallgrass Prairie Gun Auctions! For Illinois residents with FOID cards, the transfer fee is now only $17.00 for the first gun ($15 per gun plus the one-time $2 NICS/FTIP background check.) Transfer fees for on-site licensed FFL and C&R purchasers are now $12 for the first gun, then $10 @ for additional firearms. Note: These specially reduced transfer prices are for on-site TGP live auction bidders only, and do not apply to online buyers or any other firearm transfers performed by New Salem Firearms.

We are continuing to improve and expand our firearm and hunting equipment auctions in ways that benefit both buyers and sellers! New Salem Firearms opened an independent gun shop within our Auction Center building in Petersburg, IL. Our most recent Gun & Hunting Equipment Auctions were held Saturday, September 25th, Saturday July 10th, Friday April 23rd, and Saturday February 13th. single action revolverBuyers can participate in Tallgrass Prairie Gun & Hunting Equipment Auctions either on-site in our Auction Center, or online through our online auction partner Proxibid.

An obvious new benefit for buyers will be the ability to pick purchased guns up here at our Petersburg facility (after the normal waiting period, of course.)

Important Things to Remember:

  1. All Federal and State Laws and Regulations will be followed without exception!
  2. The successful bidder must be the actual purchaser and not be a "straw buyer."
  3. Firearm buyers who are Illinois residents must have a valid Illinois FOID card and meet all requirements for FTIP/NICS approval of a Federal 4473 application.
  4. Firearms sold to out-of-state residents must be shipped to a licensed firearms dealer that holds a Federal Firearms License (FFL,) and cannot be shipped directly to an individual.
  5. Please note that Illinois law includes antique guns, muzzle loading firearms, and high-power airguns within the jurisdiction of laws pertaining to cartridge-based firearms. Because Illinois law is more restrictive than Federal law, we cannot currently ship antique (pre-1899) guns directly to non-FFL individuals, even if they reside outside of Illinois.
  6. If you cannot qualify to legally possess a firearm, do not bid! It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine if a specific purchase would violate any state or local laws. Even if a specific firearm is legal where you live, there may be restrictions on accessories such as high-capacity magazines. Know your local laws and bid accordingly!
  7. Firearms not picked up after 30 days beyond the specified waiting period will be assessed $50 per month storage, unless alternative arrangements have been made.
  8. For buyers receiving a firearm on our premises, there is a transfer fee of $15.00 per gun plus a $2.00 FTIP/NICS call-in fee (when applicable) for individual buyers. FFL dealers and C&R license holders pay a transfer fee of $12.00 for the first gun, then $10 @ for additional firearms. Qualified FFL and C&R license holders are exempt from the FTIP/NICS fee upon submission of the proper paperwork, and individual buyers are charged only one FTIP/NICS fee regardless of the number of firearms purchased. On-site transfer fees are paid directly to New Salem Firearms. For online buyers, a transfer fee of $17.00 is included within the handling, shipping, and packaging fee charges.
  9. Sales of guns from firearm dealer Inventories to Illinois residents must be charged 7.25% Illinois sales tax. Firearms from dealer inventories (when applicable) will be clearly marked as such within the online Proxibid item descriptions.
  10. Curio and Relic (C&R) license holders are responsible for providing proof of firearm eligiblity for the C&R category. (when applicable)
  11. IMPORTANT: Internet buyers should carefully read the "Terms & Conditions" information on Proxibid to avoid misunderstandings. This information can be easily found under the "INFO" button on each Proxibid auction page.

Important Things to Remember:

  1. Make sure that all firearms are unloaded and on "safe" when being brought in for consignment.
  2. Advance notice is strongly encouraged to avoid delays when delivering guns to the auction house.
  3. If an owner first consigns a gun, and then changes his/her mind about selling and wants it back; the return transaction must follow the same procedural rules and requirements that apply for purchasers – including all standard transfer fees, plus FTIP/NICS checks and waiting periods for individuals.
  4. If you set a high reserve price and the gun does not sell, there is a reduced $5.00@ FFL transfer fee per gun plus the associated waiting period to retrieve your unsold gun, and you may be required to pay a "no-sale" fee to Tallgrass Prairie for the high reserve.
